Signs will be going up at a villa community in The Villages which has been the scene of a bitter parking war.

A Villager was arrested earlier this year in an angry dispute over an oversized truck that has been parking at the La Cresenta Villas.

In response to the issues in that villa community, the Community Development District 2 Board on Friday voted to put up signs that make it clear that the parking spots are intended for guests’ vehicles and not the vehicles of homeowners in the La Cresenta Villas.

This truck has infuriated neighbors in a villa community in The Villages.

Linda Strange, a resident of the La Cresenta Villas, said she went to the hospital and the truck was parked in guest parking.

“Four months later I came back, and the truck was still there,” she said of the truck, which is owned by a homeowner in the villa community.

She warned that the board needed to take action on the matter.

“If you keep putting it off, something bad is going to happen,” Strange said.

The board’s attorney has researched the matter and determined that the parking area was originally intended for guests. However, residents of the villa community said that homeowners, in addition to the owner of the large truck, regularly park in the spots designated for guests.

Supervisor Jim Cipollone shared the frustration expressed by residents of the villas.

“The people are upset that the truck has been parking there for two years and nothing has been done about it,” he said.

Fellow Supervisor Bart Zoellner said the truck’s owner, as well as other residents, appear to be abusing the guest parking.

“We keep going round and round about this truck. He is a resident of those villas. So he can’t park there,” Zoellner said.

“What we’ve heard today is residents are also using those spots. Those residents are not in compliance, either,” he added.

Chairman Bryan Lifsey said the deed compliance process could be used to enforce the intent the spaces be used exclusively for guest parking. As a first step in the process, board members agreed to put up signs that would make it clear the parking spots are intended for guests.
