The following events are scheduled for the months of June and July at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park near Pine Grove.

Fish for Free

The PA Fish and Boat Commission is holding its annual Fish for Free Day on Saturday, July 4, 2020.

The PFBC will allow anyone, resident or non-resident, to fish without a fishing license. This is the perfect way to reacquaint yourself with the sport or introduce someone young or old to a lifetime of the sport of fishing.

Fish for Free Days are held twice a year and apply to all waters of the Commonwealth. All other PA fishing regulations will still apply.

How Indians Communicated Without Electricity

If Indians did not use sign language or smoke signals, how did they relate to each other in different ways? On Sunday, July 12, 2020, 2:00-4:00 p.m., Dave “Big Owl” McSurdy will present this program about Indian communication methods at the Small Leadership Pavilion at the Waterfall Parking Lot of Sweet Arrow Lake County Park. Children will also make a petroglyph rock to take home. Repeat participants are welcome.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, this program will be limited to 40 participants. Reservations are required by calling 570-527-2505. Masks will be required!

American Indian Spiritual Beliefs

Learn about American Indian spiritual beliefs through the retelling of stories, and demonstrations of cultural items on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the large pavilion next to the Sweet Arrow Lake County Park clubhouse. This program is hosted by Dave “Big Owl” McSurdy and is free and open to the public. However, Covid-19 restrictions will apply and the program will be limited to 40 attendees. Reservations are required by calling 570-527-2505. Masks will be required

The Bugman

Ryan “The Bugman” Bridge has been involved with the study of insects for over 40 years. He has been presenting insect education programs for groups of all ages and says “everyone loves insects… they just don’t know it yet!” Ryan will join us at the Sweet Arrow Lake County Park clubhouse on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 8:00 p.m. to present “Mother Nature’s Night Life” (rain date July 31st).

What do insects do at night? How do they see in the dark? The ultra-violet world, in which insects live, has always intrigued Ryan and he’ll detail anatomy and life-cycle, while keeping the main focus on nocturnal insects. During the indoor segment of the program, Ryan will present information about nocturnal bugs. You’ll have the opportunity to hold some of the largest LIVE bugs in the world! Next, we’ll go outside where Light Stations will be set-up to attract insects. The audience will venture into the darkness to see just what is… flying, crawling and hopping around at night.

This program is recommended for ages 8 and older. Please wear appropriate outdoor footwear and bring a flashlight or headlamp. This program is FREE and open to the public and is sponsored by the Sweet Arrow Lake Conservation Association. For reservations please call 570-345-8952.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, seating for the indoor portion of the program will be limited to 50% capacity and reservations are required by calling 570-345-8952. Masks will be required!
