City of Superior launches Sweet Streets program - WDIO

Beginning in July, the Superior Police Department will issue 'tickets' to kids who are spotted wearing their helmet while riding their bike.

These tickets can be redeemed at Sweeden Sweets for one free scoop of ice cream.

The goal of the program is to promote safety and positive police interactions.

“We want kids to ride their bikes as often as possible all summer long and even into the winter, but obviously there's dangers in every physical activity and we want to make sure that kids are growing up safely,” Mayor Jim Paine said. “So, we want every kid to get comfortable wearing a helmet now so that they continue wearing it all the way into adulthood.”

Sweet Streets will run through September to encourage kids to ride their bikes to school.

The City of Superior is seeking sponsors to get involved, so that they can give out as many helmets as possible. Those who are interested should contact the Superior Police Department or Sweeden Sweets.
