“It’s bitter,” a man who admitted eating a small container of methamphetamine — plastic bag and all — described its taste to a Bedford County deputy.

Matthew Thomas Vincent, 44, of Bugscuffle Road allegedly swallowed approximately 1 gram as he was being detained following a traffic stop Friday on Madison Street.

Vincent, who has been convicted in the past of manufacturing methamphetamine, allegedly said he uses 1 to 5 grams daily. A search of his truck revealed scales covered with crystal methamphetamine but no appreciable amounts of the substance itself.

Vincent denied ownership of the scales, found after a Shelbyville police dog sniffed the truck.

Charges of tampering with evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia were filed against Vincent, who was held on $5,000 bond.

Two people were charged Friday with a burglary on Wednesday at a North Main Street vape shop.

Crawford is charged with burglary, vandalism, theft of property under $1,000, criminal impersonation and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He posted $20,000 bond.

False call

Marijuana and a “white powder substance” were found on a suspect who allegedly falsely claimed someone had been shot Saturday morning at Bedford Manor Apartments, Barksdale Lane, according to police.

Mason was charged with filing a false report, simple possession of schedule II and VI drugs and paraphernalia for his alleged actions Saturday along with previous warrants for evading arrest, driving on a revoked license (fourth offense) and joyriding. He was held on $25,000 bond.

Overdose

A woman identified as Shania Ellis was charged with possession of schedule I and VI drugs and paraphernalia after allegedly overdosing in a Madison Street parking lot on Friday.

Officers Letisia Diaz and Brad Evans administered NARCAN after she stopped breathing, a report said. A companion, who was not charged, said they had bought a THC blunt from a store in Dickson and stopped in the parking lot only because she was familiar with the area from work.

Bags containing fentanyl, marijuana and scales were found in the women’s van.

Ellis was admitted to Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital for treatment, police said.

Robbery claim

Two or four men robbed a man of his shoes and phone as he “hung out” in front of Sherwood Court mailboxes Saturday night, he told police.

The victim, Terry Mooningham Jr., was found on Madison Street holding the shoes, which he said he’d gotten back. The suspects were described initially as four Hispanic males and later as possibly two Black males.

Mooningham was arrested for public intoxication Sunday night after an East Depot Street resident reported he was hiding in bushes and began banging on the door of a business yelling for someone to open the door.
