In a win that doesn’t feel as good as it should, the Mets topped the Diamondbacks 4-2 to complete a three-game sweep. The excitement that should come from what was an extremely eventful series is greatly muted by injury news, as Jacob deGrom departed after only five innings. Per reports, he was removed for precautionary reasons due to “right side tightness”, presumably a re-aggravation of the lat injury that led to him being scratched in St. Louis. Not catastrophic but not good either, and there was no doubt a lot of internal screaming from across the fanbase as he walked off the field with the trainer.
Offensively, the Mets continued to leave a lot on the table, but managed to do enough to win. An Arizona error and a bases-loaded walk to Patrick Mazeika proved to be the difference in this one, with Francisco Lindor and Michael Conforto contributing a sac-fly and an RBI single respectively earlier in the game. The bullpen also turned in another excellent performance, allowing only a single run in four innings of work.
The Mets will be off tomorrow before playing a two game set with the Orioles. Some rotation shuffling is likely in order, so we’ll see who actually takes the mound for those games.
