Re “Tennessee bans teaching critical race theory in schools” (May 25): Tennessee is added to a list of red states that enacted similar laws teaching an alternative reality in American history. In another article in the same issue, Kevin McCarthy states the Holocaust was “the greatest atrocity committed in history.”
Where did Adolf Hitler get the idea for the “final solution”? From America, through the writings of Madison Grant, who described methods Americans used to exterminate millions of Indigenous people in the continental U.S.
The treatment of Africans, Mexicans and Asians in American history similarly paints an ugly picture of racism. By embracing a leader who gained fame as a “birther,” and by embracing QAnon conspiracists, the Republican Party has lost all credibility. Republicans who value democracy, integrity and character should resign from this party lest they become complicit in its numerous lies.
