There’s more to this quaint ice cream trailer called Sweet Hope’s that sits just off N.C. Highway 55 outside the Mount Olive town limits.

And it all started with a dream once shared by sisters Charity and Hope Wright.

The siblings always wanted to own a business, but couldn’t quite decide which way to go.

A clothing store? Maybe.

Then again, they desired to use their respective talents. Hope loved to bake and Charity had a knack for concessions. They decided to sell cookies and ice cream, but couldn’t come up with a name.

Until one fateful day in May 2019 that changed the family’s life forever. Hope unexpectedly passed away.

“Shocking. We didn’t know what happened,” Wright said. “And I didn’t know if I was going to open it or not. She and I were so excited about it that I just felt for her to live on and honor her name, I thought I’m going to name it after her.

“This was her idea, too.”

Welcome to Sweet Hope’s.

Nestled under a shade tree, the trailer offers a variety of homemade cookies derived from family recipes. Wright favors the chocolate chip and snickerdoodle, but she also has peanut butter and sugar cookies on hand.

Different flavors of ice cream are provided by Homeland Creamy, a company in western North Carolina.

“We offer a signature ice cream cookie sandwich with two cookies and ice cream in the middle,” Wright said. “I might add different flavors of cookies throughout the season, but right now these are the ones I’m going with.”

Wright said the response and support from the community has been overwhelming. She’s constantly busy from open to close every weekend.

“I want to bring joy to people’s life every day, just as she did to so many in hers,” Wright said. “I want Sweet Hope’s to inspire people to chase after their dreams and enjoy the small things in life.”
