Elmhurst Missing Person: Bitter Divisions On Facebook - Elmhurst, IL Patch

ELMHURST, IL — The main Facebook page in the search for missing Elmhurst resident Jake Cefolia has turned into a place for arguments. Many are questioning the intentions of its creator, who claims to be working for his boss, "Zuck." He admits he has never met Cefolia. Meanwhile, a rival Facebook group formed this week, with members contending the other page censored their views.

A couple of weekends ago, a man who goes by the name John Wynne on Facebook created the page, "Help find Jake Cefolia," shortly after a burst of publicity about the United Airlines executive's disappearance. The page now has more than 1,700 members.

On Wednesday, Wynne posted a video of himself on the Facebook page in which he is holding the camera. He announced himself as the administrator of the group and said he had been in talks with his boss, "Zuck." He also referred to the Elmhurst Police Department's statement that Cefolia has been under criminal investigation since before he disappeared.

"We both think Jake is alive right now and well, and we're going to do what we can for assisting Jake for clearing his name, and then we'll see if we can get him to come back," Wynne said in the video. "Jake's a great guy. He needs to be fully cleared. Like I say, I have been in talks with my boss Zuck, so I really think this entire thing is going to have a good ending."

When Elmhurst Patch asked Wynne through a Facebook message whether he knew Cefolia, he sent back a voice message, "My relationship is with Zuck. I work with Zuck. He has me doing many things. I have lots of things. I have 25 groups that I'm the admin for."

Asked for Zuck's full name, Wynne said it was Mark Zuckerberg, the Facebook founder. He did not provide proof that he worked for Zuckerberg when asked, only saying, "Ask Zuck."

Wynne received a lot of negative feedback in response to the video. Some contended he was trying to promote himself or gain financially, although they did not specify how.

One man wrote, "At this point, I would not look to this group and particularly the admin for legit news on Jake. John has no ties to Jake and has set up this group for reasons unknown."

In response to questions about his boss, Wynne said, "Zuck is in charge of the universe. He is always helpful."

Wynne's Facebook page says he lives in Tarpon Springs, Fla., and works for Zuck Petition Management. Other than a Facebook page for Zuck Petition Management that Wynne created, a Google search produced no other evidence the company exists. Wynne said he, not Zuckerberg, owns the company.

The company could not be found in Florida's database for corporations and limited liability partnerships. Wynne did not answer a question whether it was a limited partnership or corporation, saying, "You shall find out when we do our work."

Despite apparently heading 25 Facebook groups, Wynne only had a little more than 100 friends on Facebook, a low number compared with most active users of the social media site.

"My friends are tight," he said. "I know each of them. I am happy for people with more."

One of the members of Wynne's Cefolia page, Alicia Stasica Bailey, formed a rival page called "The Disappearance of Jake Cefolia" on Tuesday. It is described as an "objective exploration" of his disappearance.

In a message to Patch, she said she belongs to a number of true crime groups on Facebook. She said Wynne's page had problems, so "I felt like it was my calling to step up to the plate."

Bailey said she recently left United Airlines after 15 years, but only met Cefolia once. So she said she had no personal interest other than the general intrigue. Her page had 73 members as of Thursday afternoon.
