Crazy Sweet closed in May when its original owners retired.
It will reopen next Friday, June 19, under new owners, with the same name and same sugar rush in the form of candy and ice cream.
But there’s a twist to the story.
The sweets shop will only remain through the summer in this corner spot, 201 W. College Ave., between Houdini Plaza and Cleo’s in downtown Appleton.
Around late summer, it will move to a new home up the street, 514 W. College Ave., the former Coventry Glassworks & Gallery building next to Flanagan’s Stop & Shop, said Karissa Fendt, one of Crazy Sweet's new owners.
The store will remain open in its current spot until the new shop is ready.
“We wanted a bigger space,” said Fendt. “This new (Coventry) space will be one big open space with a ton of seating. It’s located next to more restaurants rather than bars. There’s a great big window.”
She is partners in Crazy Sweet with husband Tim Fendt and Crystal and Brian Schalliol. The Fendts also own Boardlandia, a game store on Appleton’s north side. The Schalliols are Neenah teachers.
Crazy Sweet will still have nostalgic candy, bulk chocolates, ice cream and Fro-Dough ice cream-filled donuts.
The new partners are adding “gas station candy,” meaning traditional candy bars like Snickers and Twix, plus more sundae choices and State Fair mini donuts.
Architectural plans for the redesigned Coventry space will go through the approval process before work starts.
