Roma are in turmoil with multiple reports director Gianluca Petrachi is ready to walk out following a bitter row with President Jim Pallotta, possibly intensified by Pedro.
It emerged last night that there had been a total breakdown in the rapport between Petrachi – who hasn’t even been in the job for a year – and Pallotta with regards to transfer strategy.
La Gazzetta dello Sport and Il Messaggero point to a precise issue that proved the final straw, namely the inability to lock down Pedro to a contract.
The Spaniard is a free agent after his Chelsea contract ran down and he does seem to favour Roma, but Pallotta’s hesitation is leaving the door open for other clubs to swoop in.
The President wants to sell players before making any investment, even on a free transfer, as the decision to reject the Friedkin Group’s takeover proposal has left Roma in dire financial straits.
If Petrachi does storm out, or is fired, then former goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis is ready to take over as director of sport.
De Sanctis is already working with the Giallorossi as a team manager and assistant to Petrachi.
As so many times in the recent past, the main problem at Roma seems to be a lack of clarity and hierarchy, with numerous directors holding transfer negotiations with different strategies.
This is nothing new, as Francesco Totti, Monchi, Walter Sabatini and others have complained of too many voices getting involved, including freelance consultant to Pallotta, Franco Baldini.
