Houston-based chain Sweet Paris Creperie & Café will bring sweet and savory crepes to the Domain soon. The cafe will take over the former home of the Steeping Room (which closed in January 2018) at 11410 Century Oaks Terrace. It’s aiming to open this month, potentially sometime during the week of August 24, for both dine-in and takeout services.
Sweet Paris has a menu that spans sweet and savory crepes (including gluten-free options), waffles, salads, soups, and panini. Breakfast crepes include concoctions like Le Mexicain, which has eggs, queso fresco, refried beans, and carnitas, topped with chipotle sauce. There’s also a Canadian-themed crepe with poutine cheese, eggs, potatoes, and maple syrup. The dessert crepes stay more traditional with offerings of lemon and sugar and nutella.
The Austin location will raise money for the Central Texas Food Bank through its Eat Here, Feed There initiative. The restaurant will donate a meal to children in need with each crepe sold from a designated section of the menu.
The restaurant also serves milkshakes, beer, wine, and hard cider. The space, which the press release calls “charming French, industrial decor” will also include an outdoor patio. Clean tables at the seat-yourself restaurant will feature a sanitized marker. Staffers are also required to watch their hands every 20 minutes, indicated by a loud timer. To-go orders can be placed online, and there will be third-party deliveries too.
Sweet Paris was founded in Houston in 2012 by Allison and Ivan Chavez, who, according to a press release, “made it their personal mission to revive the art of eating crepes.” Sweet Paris has since expanded around the Houston area, to San Antonio, and to Mexico. This is the chain’s 10th location.
