It wasn't the wedding shower Stacey Jackson originally envisioned for her daughter Sierra.
There were no hugs, games or tears. It wasn't even indoors.
But the shower for Sierra Rosenthal was memorable nonetheless.
On Sunday afternoon, guests drove past the family house on Crossman Avenue, off Genesee Sttreet, where bridesmaids in face masks and gloves handed out favors and a cupcake while accepting gifts for Rosenthal and Aymanuel Radford, the groom-to-be.
"It was a beautiful day and the weather was perfect," Jackson said. "We just wanted to do a little something because we postponed the wedding shower from April. She's getting married in July, so we can't postpone anymore."
The shower was to have been held at North Buffalo Community Center but for the novel coronavirus pandemic. Instead, a parade of cars, many of them decorated and driven by motorists honking horns, celebrated the special occasion for about an hour.
"We planned for this for so long, but it turned out great today. It was short and sweet – and less expensive," Jackson said with a laugh.
The wedding date is July 3. Jackson said there will be a small gathering, with attention paid to social distancing and no reception.
She's hopeful that will also be a beautiful occasion despite restrictions due to Covid-19. If not, there will be other ways to celebrate.
"They can always renew their vows next year," Jackson said, "or five years from now."
