LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- Window shopping has never been so tasty as it is for customers walking by Sweet Designs Chocolatier.

The Detroit Avenue candy store recently introduced Sweet Designs Window Shopping with the installation of its full menu -- handmade gourmet chocolate confections, including creamy truffles, salted caramels, organic and vegan chocolates -- in the storefront visible from the street.

“In addition to our online shipping and curbside pickup, we can now serve customers at a safe distance right from our front door,” said Sweet Designs Chocolatier owner and founder Ines Rehner in a press release. “You simply make your selections outside. We’ll prepare them and bring them right to you.”

Sweet Designs Chocolatier General Manager Carly Moran told cleveland.com the window-shopping initiative is part of the business’ more conservative approach to reopening.

“We have a very small, kind of tight-knit staff,” Moran said. “We’re just trying to operate as carefully as we can to make sure that both our employees and our customers stay healthy. We’re still serving our full product line, but we’re just doing it from the safety of our front door setup.

“We have a table to designate a safe distance for our customers and our staff, as well as a contactless credit card reader. You can literally walk down the sidewalk, window shop and place your order at our front door just as you would inside of our store. Our staff then brings out the order.”

In addition, Sweet Designs will treat customers with free (individually packaged) samples for all walk-up and curbside pick-up orders.

“We just launched it a week ago, and we’ve had a lot of positive feedback from our customers,” Moran said. “They appreciate that we’re taking the extra precautions and that it’s just as convenient as ordering inside.”

There’s no denying chocolate has played a key role helping many people stay sane and feel normal during the trying times associated with the pandemic and stay-at-home orders.

“Absolutely, you can’t go wrong with chocolate,” Moran said. “It’s something to satisfy your sweet tooth, kind of de-stress and help you look forward during difficult times.”
