Sweet & Salty Pig joins local restaurants offering outdoor dining experience - Fond du Lac Reporter

FOND DU LAC - Another eatery in the city has added outdoor dining as an amenity for its customers.

Fond du Lac City Council at its last meeting gave the go-ahead for Sweet & Salty Pig at 99 W. Pioneer Road to create a space for five tables in the front of the restaurant where food and alcohol can be served.

The patio space is aptly named "The Pigpen" to match the establishment's "pork-centric" theme.

The outdoor seating accommodates the six-foot social distancing recommendations for restaurants in Fond du Lac County under the health department's COVID-19 Safe Restart Plan.

Sweet & Salty Pig co-owner Allison Gossman said the demand for outdoor accommodations at eating establishments has been on the rise because of the health guidelines.

"We know it's late in the year, but there will still be a few weeks left to enjoy dining outdoors," she said. "And, it's a great place for Happy Hour."

A homemade fence made from painted pallets encircles the patio and lends to the rustic, farmyard look, Gossman said.

Additional parking spots will be added in the rear of the building to make up for those lost spaces, she said.

Although it's been a rough year of ups and downs for the restaurant industry, customers of Sweet & Salty have supported the business through online, take-out orders. The restaurant has a drive-up window that makes it convenient for picking up food orders.

The restaurant opened in late February 2018.

This past June the community chose Sweet & Salty Pig as first-place winner in the BBQ category in the Best of Fond du Lac Awards, sponsored by The Reporter.

According to a list compiled by the city, as of the end of June, there were at least 36 restaurants in the city that offer outdoor dining.

Check out the restaurant on Facebook or at sweetnsaltypig.com. Hours are typically 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, Sundays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
