Two new businesses were honored by the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce on Friday, Sept. 25 with ribbon-cutting ceremonies.

BBQ Cafe and Kristin’s Kookie House and Boutique were welcomed to the community with cheers, conversations, and celebrations.

Located at 252 Highway 72, BBQ Cafe owners Sharamee and Donnie Trisdale are quite new to the Yorktown area.

“We came with the oil field eight or ten years ago,” said Sharamee during an interview, “and once we got to the area, we decided we love it here. Love the people, love the community–everything about the area.”

She continued, “This is where we want to be–we’ve met amazing people and we dreamt about having a food truck or restaurant here for years.”

Sharamee explained that the duo has been working on renovating the building, formally The Junction, Rudy’s, and originally Charlie’s Place, for about a year, and decided to purchase a food truck (what they are operating out of currently) in the meantime.

“It’s a great building,” she said, “It just needs a lot of love. The history of the building is amazing, and that’s what we love about it, it just needs more work than what we can do now, so that’s why we got the food truck–we just want to cook and make people happy.”

“We will see what happens from here with COVID and the economy,” said Sharamee.

On the sweeter side of things, Kristin’s Kookie House is also located in a historic Yorktown building.
