“Have A Heart” is Evans Ace Hardware’s month-long fundraiser for the Bitter Root Human Association with a special event on Feb. 12.
BRHA Board Member Michele Craig said it is a great collaboration.
"We are so excited to work with David Evans and Evans Ace Hardware. He has a true love of this community and the nonprofits that support this valley,” Craig said. “I spend so much time at Ace on the weekends. It's like my second home, and it is so nice to see the face and the family behind the local Ace Hardware."
Every day in February, each cash register in Evans Ace Hardware has “Have A Heart” valentines and photos of adoptable animals at the Bitter Root Humane Association’s animal shelter. Evans Ace has Valentine’s Day hearts available for customers to purchase for $5 each to send to an available shelter animal. If customers buy valentines for all the shelter’s animals, the donation money will be matched by Evans Ace Hardware and their cat, Traeger.

“Our goal is to sell as many hearts as we have adoptable animals — right now that is about 100 cats and dogs,” Craig said. “We wanted to do this event in February since it is the month of love and valentines."
Evans Ace Hardware is having a “Have A Heart” Animal Appreciation Day on Saturday, Feb. 12.
BRHA Board members and volunteers will be at Evans Ace Hardware, 714 N. 1st St., in Hamilton from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, handing out free Valentine’s Day cookies and sharing information about the shelter, their 50th anniversary in the valley and how they support the community.
Craig said the valentine event is a great kickoff to the BRHA's 50th year.
“Our 50th anniversary is testament to the services we provide to the community, and the support that the community gives to us,” Craig said. “It is fitting that we have a new and efficient building to get us through the next 50 years — but we do continue to need support from the community. We are still paying off the costs of our new building.”
The Bitter Root Humane Association is a private nonprofit organization, which receives no ongoing taxpayer funding and is funded only through generous donations and their fundraising efforts.
“We really do depend on the generosity of individuals and businesses like Evans Ace Hardware,” Craig said. “We are so excited to participate in this fun and playful challenge."
On Saturday, Feb. 12, volunteers will show off adoptable shelter dogs and will have a photo display of all their adoptable animals. To add to the event the employees of Evans Ace Hardware will have a photo display of all their family pets.
In honor of the event, Evans Ace Hardware will offer a “rounding up of purchases” at each of the registers to raise money for the Bitter Root Humane Association.
Ace employee Rachel Nay said the “Have A Heart” program has been well received by customers.
“The Bitter Root Humane Association seems to do a lot in the community and takes more than the typical pets, so it is great,” Nay said.
Ace employee Chris Smith said he appreciates that the community has stepped forward.
“It’s great to see the community come out and support the animals,” Smith said. “We love anything to do with supporting the animals too. Anything we can do to help is always fun.”
Ace employee Amanda Payne said that by Feb. 4 the store had already sold 24 valentines.
“We are so grateful for business owners like David Evans of Evans Ace Hardware who support the nonprofits in Ravalli County,” Craig said. "The ‘Have a Heart’ event with Evans Ace Hardware is a perfect way to show your love to animals at the shelter during the month of February.”
