The Inter-Club Council, Campus Events Organization and the Sweet Briar Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society partnered this year to bring back an important series of awards that recognize Sweet Briar’s multifaceted values: leadership, a commitment to diversity and inclusion and community service. The awards also include categories for faculty and staff advisors, student supporters, best club events, and club and organization of the year.
Emerging Leader: Bijou Barry ’23
Awarded to a first-year or sophomore student who has shown great leadership potential during the academic year and has demonstrated a commitment to Sweet Briar’s mission through leadership, scholarship and/or service.
Established Leader: Sydney Campbell ’21
Awarded to a junior or senior student who has shown great leadership growth during the academic year and has demonstrated a commitment to Sweet Briar’s mission through leadership, scholarship and/or service.
Diversity and Inclusion: Griselda Vasquez ’22
Awarded to a student from any class year that has demonstrated a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives for the Sweet Briar community.
Heart of Service: Madeleine McAllister ’21
Awarded to a student from any class year that has demonstrated a commitment to serving the Sweet Briar community and beyond. This student has a passion for giving back and will always go the extra mile to show her support, dedication and kindness.
Student Leader of the Year: Reesa Artz ’21
Awarded to any student leader who has demonstrated exceptional leadership for the academic year and has gone above and beyond in their role(s) on campus. This student exemplifies true leadership abilities, while cultivating community and uplifting others.
Advisor of the Year: Stephen Loftus
Awarded to a recognized student club or organization advisor who has gone above and beyond in his/her role. This person has been a role model, a support source for students and a guiding individual for student leadership.
Student Involvement Supporter of the Year: Jess Austin
Awarded to any Sweet Briar faculty or staff member who has shown exemplary service and assistance to student clubs or organizations throughout the year. The recipient of this award should have demonstrated a commitment to supporting student involvement and student events as a whole.
Club of the Year: Black Student Alliance
Awarded to a club that has had an impactful and memorable presence on campus this academic year. The club awarded this honor will have worked tirelessly to host campus events and community service projects and will have demonstrated Sweet Briar spirit in their club efforts.
Organization of the Year: Campus Events Organization
Awarded to an organization that has gone above and beyond this academic year. The organization awarded this honor will have worked tirelessly to host campus events, community service projects, provoked change on campus and/or embodied the Sweet Briar spirit through their work.
