A strong cold front will move through northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio tonight, bringing snow and bitter cold to the region. While we aren't looking at large snow totals, the quick-moving cold air could create a flash-freeze, causing slick conditions.
While it starts as a rain snow mix in the early evening, precipitation should change over to all snow for the rest of the night. Heavy snow is possible at times, which could create low visibility. Snow should wrap up by midnight. We expect the most snow to the north of Fort Wayne, which areas south of the city may see very little accumulation due to rain mixing in with snow.
Behind the rain and snow comes bitterly cold arctic air. Temperatures quickly plummet to the teens overnight. With the recent rain and snow, wet surfaces will likely freeze overnight, causing slick conditions on untreated roads. Winds will also be gusty, causing wind chills to fall near zero.
Cold air persists into Friday, with highs in the 20s and wind chills in the single digits to teens. Cold air sticks around through the weekend and into next week, with highs staying in the teens. Overnight lows will likely be confined to the single digits.
We'll have updates through the night and a look at the roads from StormTracker 21 at 5, 6, and 11PM on ABC21!
