Lindsay LaRouche opened Sweet! Macaron in downtown Peterborough in February 2021, and the response has been overwhelmingly “sweet.” The shop bakes “classic French macarons for any occasion with a wide variety of flavors year round and seasonally.” All of their macarons are made from scratch using only real, quality ingredients, and because they are made with almond flour, the majority of them are also gluten free. You can sample from a variety of different flavors like coffee nutella or red velvet, or even have multiple combinations made for your specific needs.
We reached out to Lindsay to learn more about this new delicious bakery.
Tell us about the history of your store. What inspired you to open it?
Lindsay: “We moved from Orlando, Florida to Peterborough almost two years ago. We had owned and operated restaurants there for years, but I had been a stay-at-home mom for a couple years since we had sold them. I have always had a love for macarons, so when covid hit and I was spending a lot of time at home, I decided to give them a go. I started making different flavors and ended up selling them at the local farmers market. Most weeks I would sell out, macarons have a huge following and they aren’t always easy to find. I started getting orders for birthdays and other special occasions, and I just thought it would be so much easier if I had a shop. My husband, Oliver reached out to our realtor to see if there was any commercial space available. That same afternoon we went and looked at 28 Grove Street and we just fell in love with it!”
Why macarons?
Lindsay: “Because they are delicious when made correctly and there aren’t a lot of places to get them. We thought it would be a great fit for downtown Peterborough.”
What makes your bakery different?
Lindsay: “I think what makes us different is the attention to detail in the baking, the products we choose to use and sell, and the focus on customer service. I have a degree in Hospitality Management from UCF and have been in the industry for almost 20 years. Customer service will always be my number one priority. Treat every guest like they are a friend and make them feel at home when they walk through the door. I want people to look forward to their next visit to Sweet! Macaron.”
What was it about the location that drew you to it?
Lindsay: “The location was the perfect size for what we wanted to do. It needed a lot of work to go from a shoe store to a bakery, but it came out exactly how we pictured it. It just has this charm to it and is situated in a great spot right on Grove Street. We couldn’t be happier with it! My husband did most of the buildout himself and the final interior design was done by Union Street Kitchens and Design.”
Tell us a secret or little-known fact about your store.
Lindsay: “Not sure if it’s a secret, but I get asked all the time if we bake the macarons on site. I guess because so many places do not. The answer is yes! Everything is baked fresh right in the back. In fact, we have already upgraded some of our equipment to keep up with demand.”
Do you have anything exciting planned – new products, offerings, experiences or milestones?
Lindsay: “Our original plan was to have mini cupcakes as well, but it was delayed a bit because of the demand of macarons. We are getting ready to roll those out in the next couple weeks! We also offer old time candies and our Coffee and Espresso drinks are all made with locally roasted beans from Java Tree. Always freshly ground, freshly brewed, and made with care.”
