Grant Napear Not Bitter But Not Sorry About All Lives Matter Fallout - Barrett Sports Media

Former Sacramento Kings play-by-play man and KHTK afternoon host Grant Napear isn’t apologizing. He spoke to FOX 40 in Sacramento about the tweet that led to his exit from both companies and said that he stands by it.

DeMarcus Cousins, a former Sacramento Kings big, tweeted at Napear asking his take on the Black Lives Matter movement.

“ALL LIVES MATTER…EVERY SINGLE ONE,” Napear responded in all caps.

“All Lives Matter” is a phrase commonly used to dismiss the ideas behind Black Lives Matter. Napear says that was not his intent though and he is not going to apologize for a meaning someone else assigned to the phrase.

“And I said ‘all lives matter, every single one’, because I meant it. Do the lives of Black people matter? Hell yeah, the lives of Black people matter,” Napear said during the interview. “I’m for equality for all, that’s how I was raised. That’s how my dad brought up my brother and I.”

Napear, who was a mainstay in the Sacramento media since 1987, was immediately put on leave by KHTK and was later let go. He resigned from the Kings immediately after.

He has temporarily relocated to Miami with his wife. He says he is focused on his new podcast If You Don’t Like That. He says he hasn’t thought about his next move yet.

“I’m going to do this podcast. I’m going to have fun with it, and then we’ll see where we are at six months or 12 months down the road. I could see myself back in Sacramento, you just never know.”

While he didn’t explicitly say another broadcasting job is his ultimate goal, Grant Napear did say that he would be happy to be back calling games in any sport. He says it is what he believes he does best.

Napear also says that he doesn’t view Cousins with any ill-will nor does he blame Cousins for him being out of a job. While the two did have their differences long before this incident, Napear swears that he doesn’t “have anything against DeMarcus” and notes that the big man “has a pretty good heart.”

That doesn’t mean Napear has reconsidered his position. Whether others think he intentionally said something hurtful or offensive to anyone, Napear is steadfast in his belief that he has nothing to apologize for.

“Do I make mistakes? Yeah, I make mistakes and if I make a mistake, I try to say that I’m sorry. But I’m not sorry for saying ‘all lives matter, every single one,’” he said. “I’m not sorry because I believe that every life is important. I’m not sorry because I believe in equality for all. I’m not sorry because I try to treat everyone, regardless of the color of their skin, the same.”
