Bitter, but not record-breaking cold in Spokane on Sunday morning - The Spokesman-Review

gemblongsa.blogspot.com

Temperatures plunged to near-record lows Sunday night in the Inland Northwest, as power crews continued to restore electricity following an early-season snowstorm Friday.

The National Weather Service in Spokane reported an overnight low of 16 degrees, well below normal but also not as cold as the 12 degrees reported on this date in 1919. Bonners Ferry’s low of 14 was cold enough to set a record for Oct. 25 dating to 2002, however.

Avista Utilities reported outages affecting 2,166 customers in the region as of Sunday morning. That’s down from the 22,000 who reported losing power during the height of Friday’s storm, which dumped a record-setting 6.9 inches on Spokane.

The utility said in a news release Sunday morning it planned to have power completely restored by Sunday evening.

Vera Water and Power customers still experiencing outages are asked to call 888-774-8272.

Inland Power and Light reported Sunday morning it had restored power to all but two customers in Spokane County.

Northern Lights reported outages affecting 77 members northwest of Bonners Ferry.

Continued cold is expected Sunday into Monday, with low temperatures again approaching record levels overnight Sunday. Daytime temperatures are expected to warm throughout the week, reaching the upper 40s in Spokane by Thursday, the National Weather Service reported.
