The former First Lady of the United States has long been known as one of the driving forces behind Barack's political rise to power in the White House more than a decade ago. With her support, Barack secured two terms as US President, helping rewrite American history through his policies, including Obamacare, and being in charge when terrorist Osama bin Laden was killed by a military special operations unit. And although Michelle and Barack show a united front in their marriage, the pair have also fallen out, including one devastating moment during their relationship.
Speaking to broadcaster Conan O'Brien on The Michelle Obama Podcast, the 56-year-old discussed the episode that happened before they wed in 1992.
She said: “I remember, and Barack knows the story when we were engaged, I got mad at him about something, and I took my engagement ring off, and I said ‘Forget this. Who needs this? And I threw the ring.
"We were in my car, I wasn’t really throwing it out, I threw it where I knew it would go. I didn’t mean it, I wasn’t like, this is it.
"It was on the floor, I knew where it was going, but, whenever he gets the chance to relive that, as an example of how fast and quickly I can go there."
The row, Michelle revealed, made her understand that Barack "feels things much more deeply and over a longer period of time".
She explained that it showed she "had to learn how not to go there" and that "you have to learn how to communicate in a way that the other person is actually going to hear".
The Obamas married in 1992, a year after Michelle's father Fraser C. Robinson III, died from complications from his illness.

"And these periods can last a long time. They can last years.
"But we don't talk about that, so young couples, they face these challenges, and they're ready to give up because they think they're broken.
"And, I just want to say, look, if that breaks a marriage, then Barack and I have been broken off and on, throughout our marriage, but we have a very strong marriage.
"And if I had given up on it, if I had walked away from it, in those tough times, then I would've missed all the beauty that was there as well."
