How sweet it is: The votes are in for best desserts - The Dallas Morning News

gemblongsa.blogspot.com

It’s been four days since we revealed the winners in the Best in DFW reader’s choice awards and hundreds of businesses have reason to celebrate. You do, too, because now you have a comprehensive list of people and businesses your neighbors have selected as the top picks in their categories. But as the holidays quickly approach and we put on our comfy sweaters, we turn our attention to the best sweet treats around town with winners in three different Eat & Drink categories, including Best Bakery, Best Dessert and Best Vegan/Vegetarian (because not all fabulous desserts require butter, eggs and cream). Below, learn more about seven sinfully delicious spots to get decadent creations for your holiday dinners or festive parties and open houses. (Pro tip: Walk around while you read this list so you can burn a few extra calories in anticipation.)

Christopher’s Bakery

Gold: Best Bakery

Bronze: Best Dessert

The signature dessert at this bakery is vanilla wafer cake, which includes raisins, pecans, coconut and dried cranberries. It can be customized with different ingredients, as well as in a gluten-free option. Pound cakes round out the current offerings of this small bakery, but more items will be added in the coming months and years.

Kuluntu Bakery

Silver: Best Bakery

This cottage bakery operates out of a home in the Bishop Arts District and though they’re known for their sourdough bread, desserts are a popular offering, too. Among the holiday offerings: maple pecan galettes, salted caramel apple galettes, chocolate and maple babka, and a baker’s box filled with six pastries.

Four Czechs Bakery

Bronze: Best Bakery

What holiday party (or family breakfast) wouldn’t be better with a spread of kolaches, including several sweet varieties with fillings made from scratch. Order up a variety of traditional Czech pastries loaded with butter pecan, cinnamon cream, Nutella, poppy seed or strawberry.

Emporium Pies

Gold: Best Dessert

If a holiday gathering doesn’t have pies, is it really a holiday gathering? In addition to their fan-favorite Smooth Operator (French silk chocolate with a pretzel crust) and Lord of the Pies (deep dish apple with cinnamon streusel), Emporium Pies also has special holiday creations, including the Drop Dead Gorgeous featuring spicy pumpkin custard in a gingerbread crust.

Lekka

Silver: Best Dessert

The tempting aroma of pies and cakes fills the air inside the bakery at this popular restaurant and retail gift emporium. Banana caramel pecan pie, peanut butter pie, double chocolate fudge cake, toffee mocha cake, red velvet cheesecake and chocolate eclair cheesecake represent only a few of the toothsome temptations.

Spiral Diner & Bakery

Gold: Best Vegan/Vegetarian

Voted tops in the overall category devoted to vegan/vegetarian eating, Spiral Diner has legions of devoted fans of its vegan baked goods. Custom cakes, mini cupcakes, cookies and brownies can always be ordered, as well as seasonal treats including pecan, blueberry and sweet potato pies. Throw in some homemade vegan vanilla ice cream as a bonus for your guests.
