It was a sweet summer day when two extremely talented, personable and kind young ladies, Amanda Wickens and Despena Zouzas, teamed up for a Read Aloud & Cookie Workshop.

This clever and unique event was held at Short & Sweet Bakery at the mezzanine of the Tyngsboro Sports Center at 500 Potash Hill Road in Tyngsboro.

Enthusiastic children ages 3-10 years old enjoyed local author Zouzas (The Z-List niece and goddaughter) stage a read-aloud of her popular children’s book, “Nala Stands Tall.”

Each child completely mesmerized over the dynamic duo received their own copy of the book as well as some fun goodies featuring characters from the book. To sweeten the deal, founder of Short & Sweet Bakery Wickens, also taught a cookie workshop where each child got to decorate their own cookies of the two main characters from the book.

Zouzas is a special education teacher in Chelmsford. Her love of reading is what inspired her to write her first children’s book. Since publication, Zouzas has enjoyed sharing her book with others and is currently working on book No. 2!

Wickens opened her fabulous bakery in 2020. Being a self-taught baker has shown her how important it is to take pride in ones’ growth and to always be open to new adventures. At Short & Sweet they specialize in a wide assortment of sweets for various occasions, and Amanda is always determined to make sure your special occasion is as a sweet as the cake on the table!

Kudos to these two remarkable divas for always educating, helping and making a difference in the lives of so many young children.
