It’s not a good time for Alex Cora and the Boston Red Sox. They seem to be failing in their attempt to right the ship, as the team continues to devolve into a mess, which had just been magnified further by a bitter three-game sweep at the hands of the New York Yankees at the Bronx. A demoralized Cora couldn’t keep himself from speaking the truth after the Red Sox’s 5-2 loss to the Yankees in the finale of the series Wednesday night.
Alex Cora: "We got beat in every aspect of the game."

Boston actually got off to a nice start in that game, as it got on the board first, thanks to a solo shot from Xander Bogaerts in the top of the opening inning. But Nick Pivetta got decimated by New York’s hitters in the second inning where he allowed four runs. The Red Sox didn’t recover after that and they are now 4-6 in their last 10.
Pivetta’s performance was emblematic of the major problem the Red Sox are having. Their pitching hasn’t been right lately. In fact, Boston has the seventh-worst ERA (4.99) so far this month in the majors.
Boston looked as though it was finally gotten out of a slump when the Red Sox had a three-game sweep of their own at the expense of the Baltimore Ravens at Fenway Park prior to the Yankees series, but that seems like a distant past for them now. The Red Sox, who are six games back of the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays with a 69-54 record, still has a 75.3% chance to make it to the postseason, according to FanGraphs.
