Snow today, bitter cold for the weekend - KBJR 6

gemblongsa.blogspot.com

TODAY: We're seeing snow moving into the region this morning as a low pressure system begins to progress through the Northland. Temperatures begin in the 20s and 30s, but a strong cold front brings falling temperatures throughout the day and winds out of the NW at 10-20 MPH, gusting higher at times. MN will have the best chance for snow during the morning hours, while WI and MI will see snow likely during the morning through the later afternoon hours. Lows fall into the single digits above and below zero with a slight chance for snow, except along the South Shore where lake effect snow will continue. Wind chill values will be in the -10° to -20° range.

FRIDAY: Lake effect snow continues along the eastern portions of the South Shore. Otherwise, the rest of the region will see a slight chance for flurries early in the day. Windy and cold conditions persist. Winds will be out of the NW at 15-25 MPH, gusting higher at times. Temperatures will only make it into the single digits above zero. Lows fall into the single digits to teens below zero with strong winds continuing. Wind chill values will be between -25° and -40°.

SATURDAY: Lake effect snow should wrap up along the eastern portions of the South Shore sometime in the late morning to early afternoon hours. Winds will be breezy out of the WNW at 10-20 MPH, gusting higher at times. High temperatures don't make it above zero degrees. Lows fall into the 20s below zero, with a few 30s below zero possible for some. Wind chill values will be as low as -30° to -50° at times.

SUNDAY: Highs once again don't make it above zero. We'll see partly cloudy skies with winds out of the WNW at 5-10 MPH. Skies clear into the overnight hours with reasonably calm conditions. Models are bringing lows in the -20s to -30s below zero, but they'll be even colder if we see effective radiational cooling due to the clear and calm conditions. Wind chills will be as low as -30° to -50° at times.

NOTE ABOUT WIND CHILLS: Frost bite can happen in as little as 5-10 minutes in these forecasted wind chills. Please cover any exposed skin if you need to go outside.
