Carolina Panthers: If Cam Newton isn’t bitter, he should stop acting like it - Cat Crave

If former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is not bitter about the way he departed the organization, he should stop acting like it.

Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton threw some more shade at the organization this weekend. His latest outburst seemed to criticize indirectly a social media post from new signal-caller Teddy Bridgewater, who seems to have bulked up during the offseason.

The 2015 NFL MVP has finally found a new home after three months on the free-agent scrapheap following his release by the Carolina Panthers this offseason. There is little disputing that the situation could have been handled better by the organization. And despite his comments to the contrary, it has left a sour taste in the mouth for the player.

That is understandable given what Newton gave the Panthers during his time with the organization. He became an iconic figure after going No. 1 overall in 2011. And he once again made his feelings about the move more than clear in two Instagram posts on Sunday evening.

One came with the phrase “You gonna choose that over this?”, which didn’t take a genius to figure out who it was directed towards. Newton also claimed he was “done being humble” ahead of his first year in a different environment to that which he thrived in Carolina.

“Note to self: You are great, you are the best, you are a dog, you are a monster, you are the lion!! – My Conscious. Never let ‘THEM’ make YOU affect YOU. I’m getting tired of being humble now. I’m really a killa. I’m really a killa. You hear me? I’m getting tired of all this humble s—-. Because, when you’re humble, they start taking advantage of you. When you don’t say nothing, they start taking advantage of you. But the hyenas can be doing all of this, the elephants can be doing all of what they do, the giraffes, the antelopes, the chimpanzees, even the gorilla. But there’s one (expletive) animal in the jungle and when he roars, everything stops. And I’m about to (expletive) roar.”

Why Cam Newton needs to move on from the Carolina Panthers

Newton might be saying all the right things in order to motivate himself. But these sour grapes come off in no uncertain terms. This is all part of the NFL business, unfortunately. And although the timing could have been better. The new regime was well within their right to bring in a player who they felt to be more beneficial to the Carolina Panthers going forward.

This left their former franchise player on the outside looking in. But it is vital for his long-term prospects with the Patriots that he moves on quickly.

His contract is only for one year and comes with $550,000 in guaranteed money. For someone that has made more than $121 million during his career so far. Newton cannot help but feel slighted by this derogatory figure.

This is the nature of the beast. And if Newton proves himself in New England next season then a multi-million deal will be forthcoming next spring.

Until then, the player has plenty to prove. The injury concerns remain after two frustrating final seasons with the Panthers. And there remains a doubt as to whether or not Newton is going to fit in with the strict way of thinking under Bill Belichick.

His bitterness towards the Panthers could complicate this matter. And Newton will need to rid himself of this resentment sooner rather than later.
