WISCONSIN URGED TO BE PREPARED FOR BITTER WEATHER - WHBL News

It’s already cold now, but dangerously cold weather appears on the way, and ReadyWisconsin is advising that people plan ahead for safety.

Arctic air arrived on Wednesday, but the worst is yet to come as temperatures are expected to drop further and winds become stronger over the weekend.

By Sunday night wind chill values here are expected to drop into the 20s below zero, which can cause frostbite in just 30 minutes.   Actual temperatures are likely to dip below zero and are not expected to reach double-digits above again until Tuesday.

The Department of Military Affair’s ReadyWisconsin group is advising to stay indoors if possible and to dress properly if you have to be outdoors in the bitter weather.  Check home supplies needed if you lose power or heat, and have an emergency kit in the car including food, blankets, booster cables and a cell phone charger.  People should also keep their pets inside except for brief periods.

ReadyWisconsin is also advising that those in need of a warm, safe place to stay can call 2-1-1 to find a nearby warming shelter.
