The bitter cold that has been in Western NY and the Finger Lakes since Friday night will ease somewhat during the day on Sunday, with temperatures rising through the 20s.
But now, heavy snow is in the forecast, with perhaps a foot or more of accumulation possible in many places, from Sunday night into Monday.
The National Weather Service had issued a wind chill advisory for most of western New York and the Finger Lakes from Saturday evening into early Sunday morning, with wind chills of as low as around 15 below zero overnight.
On Sunday, the temperature will increase to around 27 degrees, but the Winter Storm Warning for several counties, including Monroe, Livingston, Ontario, Wayne, Orleans, Genesee and Wyoming, begins Sunday evening and continues into Monday evening.
The forecast calls for the possibility of 8 to 14 inches of snow on Monday for much of the region.
The high on Monday will be around 30 degrees, but with wind gusts forecasted to top 40 mph, a lot of the snow will be blowing around Monday afternoon and evening, impacting travel.
Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so a number of schools, government offices and some businesses will be closed.
