Chef de Crepes is bringing a touch of French culture to Mechanicsburg.
Inspired by trips to France, the Cheverez family, including Tony and Rosina and their two children, Rosina Marie and Anthony Michael, opened the creperie on Dec. 12 at 20 W. Main St., Mechanicsburg.
It happened to be the same day Gov. Tom Wolf’s new COVID-19 mitigation orders went into effect, baning indoor dining at restaurants among other measures. But that didn’t stop the Cheverezes from opening the doors.
“We’ve got to do what we’ve got to do,” Tony said. “We couldn’t turn back.”
As it turned out, it also didn’t stop customers from patronizing Chef de Crepe.
“It was a remarkable, remarkable turnout,” Tony said. “Unbelievable community in Mechanicsburg. I’m humbled. It was 100% takeout but it was just incredible.”
Chef de Crepe started about a year and a half ago, first as a popup tent, then this spring as a concession trailer pulling into food truck festivals, wineries and events such as Kipona in Harrisburg. Frequently customers would ask the family if they owned a restaurant.

It was something the Cheverezes had considered in January but didn’t fully pursue. However, this fall they decided to take the leap. They negotiated a month-to-month lease, which is unusual in commercial real estate.
The plan is to operate for a few months and take it from there, said Tony, who has worked in sales.
Chef de Crepe sells a variety of savory and sweet crepes with twists on the French specialty including an homage to cheesesteaks with a Philly Steak as well as Mexi Steak and smoked salmon crepes. They also sell breakfast crepes all day including Tony’s Special with eggs, cheddar, bacon, sliced ham and spinach.
Sweet crepes cover Triple Delight with strawberries, bananas and Nutella; New Yorkers Gift with cheesecake, strawberries, bananas and Nutella; and a Isla Dulce with strawberries, bananas and dulce de leche.
Daily specials include combinations such as mom’s chicken salad croissant salad with creamy lobster bisque. The restaurant also makes the croissants as well as desserts including cakesicles and custom cakes through Rosina Marie’s side bakery, Frosting & Co.
Chef de Crepe is open 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, noon-6 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday. Closed Tuesday-Wednesday. Phone is 717-603-3821.
