Modiphius and Free League Publishing have published two new products for the open-world survival RPG Forbidden Lands: The Bitter Reach sourcebook, and The Bitter Reach Map and Card Deck. Both products have been added to the Forbidden Lands Collection at Modiphius.net in print and PDF form.
The Forbidden Lands is not a typical fantasy RPG, according to Modiphius. In Forbidden Lands, PCs don’t always get the tasks handed to them by quest-giving NPCs, and they are not really considered ‘heroes’. Instead, PCs are “raiders and rogues bent on making your own mark on a cursed world.” These two new products are designed to help players immerse themselves into the Forbidden Lands with both physical and theater of the mind source material.
The first new product is the Forbidden Lands: The Bitter Reach sourcebook, a 314-page campaign module that details the icy wastelands north of Ravenland. The Bitter Reach features the two new magic disciplines of Elemental Magic and Ice Affinity, and the new Champion profession with accompanying professional talents. Eight new monsters have been added, including the Frost Dragon, the Ice Giant, and the Wendigo. GMs have forty new random encounters to throw at their players, along with augmented cold, fuel, and now travel rules.
GMs will also be able to give their players the chance to determine the fate of the Forbidden Lands with the epic Wake of the Winter King campaign. The campaign includes ten illustrated ready-to-play adventure scenarios that may be played in any order, along with eight key NPCs who are all striving to obtain control of the Bitter Reaches’ treasures.
The Bitter Reach Map and Card Deck is a pack of player aids created for use with the Bitter Reach sourcebook and campaign. It includes a large, double-sided color map of the Bitter Reach (sized at 28.3 x 20.5 inches), and a sheet of map stickers with items commonly encountered during an adventure that may be placed on the map to make it a sort of adventure chronicle. The pack also includes a set of 14 unique playing cards with depictions of magical artifacts and mounts for players to use.
Forbidden Lands: The Bitter Reach sourcebook and The Bitter Reach Map and Card Deck are both available now in print and PDF versions at Modiphius.net.
