Homecoming at Cañon City High School was extra sweet this year.
The theme for the homecoming assembly was, “Candy Land.” The student body entered the Tiger Dome Thursday afternoon to see the gym adorned with pastel colors and life-size candy decorations.
To start the celebration the royalty court was introduced. This year’s homecoming queen is Hope Kolman and king is Ezavian Ortega. The court included Ali Tedesko, Dylan O’Rourke, Isaac Smallwood, and Madelyn Ley, who was unable to attend the assembly but was represented by a cardboard cut-out.
The student body participated in games, watched Encore! perform, cheered with the cheerleaders, and some of the senior football players were surprised to see their moms dance at the assembly as well.
Following the assembly was the annual Junior girls vs Senior girls Powder Puff football game. The game started with the Junior girls getting on the board quickly. The seniors answered back and went into the last quarter of their game, which was played during the halftime of the boys’ game, ahead of the Juniors. However, they could not hold onto their lead and the Junior girls were victorious.
The Tiger Pride Marching band performed at halftime, as well. They looked and sounded incredible under the Friday night lights. It was a great round of practice for them as they prepare to head to state on Monday.
The Tiger football team looked put together and ready to play in the first quarter scoring 7 points. Pueblo East answered back and unfortunately, the Tigers were unable to score again. The final score was 21-7.
CCHS students had an early release schedule on Friday, just before the homecoming dance that took place in the Tiger Dome Friday night.
