The New York Rangers selected Vitali Kravtsov with the No. 9 pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, but the two sides are embroiled in a bitter feud that could lead to a trade, according to the New York Post.
Kravstov didn’t make the Rangers’ season-opening roster after starting training camp in the top nine. The 21-year-old refused an assignment to the AHL and is expected to be suspended. New York is reportedly giving Kravstov permission to seek a trade elsewhere.
This feud goes back to last season:
At the end of last season, Kravtsov had a contentious exit-meeting with Rangers management. Much of the strained discussion zeroed in on the way No. 74 trains in the offseason, which left Kravtsov thinking he was going to be traded. Kravtsov decided to fire his agent, Paul Theofanous, and hired new representation in Dan Milstein amid issues with Rangers brass.
Additionally, Kravtsov believed he should’ve been in the top six when he was first recalled to the Rangers last season. Kravtsov bounced around the lineup throughout the 20 games he played in 2020-21, including a lengthy stretch on the fourth line.
The Rangers have gone through a lot of changes in 2021. They made big changes in the front office and coaching staff in an attempt to build a contending team again. This situation certainly isn’t ideal as the new season begins, but it will be taken care of.
