BLIND DATE: The olive incident may have left a bitter taste but on all other accounts it was a successful date - PerthNow

HR adviser Lisa hates olives, digital practice manager Andy loves them. Aside from Olivegate, their date at Mt Hawthorn’s Pogo went well.

Lisa, 33, says:

He was really nice and really polite. I could instantly tell he was Scottish. I think he had his polite accent on for me because I could understand what he was saying.

He was well cultured and well travelled. We talked about places we’ve been to and we’ve probably checked off most of the world between us.

We talked about our pets, my dog and his chickens. The chickens were unexpected for a guy of his age.

There were no awkward silences but, saying that, I could talk to a tree.

It was nice that he was trying to be assertive and ordered olives but I hate olives and I just didn’t have the heart to tell him because it seemed like he really wanted the olives. But I don’t really mind.

I come from a very sports-obsessed family and he said that he was into a lot of sports as well but understandably being from Scotland, he’s not really across AFL. I’m a big AFL girl but his footy is soccer.

He’s probably different to guys I’ve been with in the past but they didn’t work out.

The guys I tend to date, they’re definitely confident and probably the tall, dark handsome type of cliche.

I really tried to be open minded, particularly since I’ve been dating to really look for someone that is kind, funny, driven and has similar values and interests to me, which Andy had.

I definitely picked up with vibe that he was ready to settle down. He was mature. He’s at that point in his life and so am I.

I’ve come across a lot of guys who are definitely very confused about what they want. You could definitely tell he was looking for something serious.

I don’t know if there was chemistry. We would have to catch up again to know.

We didn’t actually exchange details, I don’t know if he was like me, because we were talking about catching up at the end of the date and I forgot to swap numbers.

It was just an all round good date.

Verdict: 8/10

Andy, 39, says:

I’m a glass-half-full person so I went in with a positive mindset.

She was really good fun. She had a bubbly personality, full of smiles and she had beautiful hair. It was wavy. There was an effort there because you don’t wake up and look that good. And her eye make-up was phenomenal, it was beautiful.

It was a really cool venue. The food was great but I got off to a bad start. When the waiter came over I ordered olives for the starter and she doesn’t eat olives so I ate the whole thing. Usually it’s a safe go-to starter but not in this case.

We shared a few common experiences with travel. We both like to go to a county and be immersed in that culture.

She’s close with her family and I am too but mine live in Scotland. She takes her job seriously. That was quite cool. It’s nice to speak to somebody that takes pride and passion in their career.

We had similar experiences with dating apps. Everyone’s kind of done with the dating apps really. It’s an effort to respond and make time for it. Having a blind date arranged just took all that pressure out of it.

It was nice to catch up with someone who has the same intentions as you and to explore that relationship genuinely.

There was definitely some good discussion about what’s happening in our lives, what makes us tick. We had a few laughs.

She had a positive outlook on life and is willing to explore the world. She’s the type of person that sees opportunities.

We’ve got a lot in common, there’s potentially something there. It can be hard to find that common ground with people.

You’re on your best behaviour on a first date. It would be good to go on another date, something a bit more casual and see if it could be more.

We sat opposite each other so it was very much a date as opposed to being at a bar.

I forgot to ask for Lisa’s number at the end of the date. Epic fail.

Verdict: 8/10
