ANN ARBOR, MI -- There’s a vegetarian restaurant that has served savory and sweet dishes in Ann Arbor for nearly 50 years.
Seva opened in 1973, spending 41 years in downtown Ann Arbor before moving to Ann Arbor’s west side. The restaurant has a variety of breakfast, lunch and dinner options from sandwiches, soups, salads and packed entrees.
Pad Thai is one of the favorites, using rice noodles, tofu, green onions, egg, spicy tangy sauce and peanuts.
“We can leave the egg out to make it vegan,” Dining Room Manager Hope Mleczko said, adding it’s also a gluten-free dish.
Enchiladas Calabaza comes with cream cheese, butternut squash, green onions and cheese inside corn tortillas, baked with spicy red sauce and Chihuahua cheese.
“They have a slightly sweet and nice spicy finish,” Mleczko said.
General Tso’s Cauliflower contains tempura batter, sesame seeds, green onions, and sweet and sour chili sauce. Yam fries are another favorite, especially during the fall season.
Seva also offers a vegan cobb salad, which features smoked coconut, its own spin on bacon.
“(It’s) prepared like bacon would be. It’s cured with maple syrup, salt and pepper and then smoked. It’s crunchy,” Mleczko said.
It also includes chargrilled tempeh, roasted chickpeas, quinoa, tomatoes and cucumbers.
The restaurant also has an all-day breakfast menu. Some of the top items include the breakfast wrap with eggs or tofu, or the California Scramble, which comes with scrambled eggs or tofu.
Be sure to check out the menu regularly, as it rotates seasonally.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Seva’s carryout hours have changed. The restaurant is open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday. It’s located at 2541 Jackson Ave. in Ann Arbor. Call 734-662-1111. More information is at https://www.sevarestaurant.com/ann-arbor/.
